Goodbye Ol' Blue

After 19 years of faithful service in my family, it was finally time to say goodbye to Ol' Blue yesterday. Although it only managed to accumulate 68,000 miles in its long lifespan, Blue's age showed itself more and more this year, and finally the bills and repair estimates became more than the car was worth. This car got me back and forth to school in San Jose many, many times and held up well on its 4,000+ mile journey to Brownsville and back. But as of yesterday, Blue was retired from the family service and now belongs to the good people at Folsom Lake Dodge.

Ol' Blue back in some of its better days in Brownsville.

On the flip side of the story, I am now the proud owner of a brand new 2007 Dodge Dakota pickup that Folsom Lake Dodge had at a really good price in order to make room for the 2008 models. This truck is certainly bigger than what I originally had in mind, and I never imagined I would be able to afford a new vehicle, but with the special deal going on this weekend, this truck turned out to be very close to the price of most of the used ones I had looked into. The newcomer still does not have a name yet, but here are some photos to show what she looks like:

So I guess the story turned out to be a happy one after all. At least I know there is another Ol' Blue still driving through the streets of Brownsville and hopefully will continue to do so for a long time to come. By the way, any thoughts on a name?

Yes, we will all miss Ol' Blue...she served our family well. However, the new truck is beautiful and now we are an all truck family! Take care of her and I pray she brings you on many, many safe journeys home as well as takes you on some great adventures. You did good and we're proud of you!

Wow, I am stunned that you got rid of your car! But, the new truck looks awesome. Congrats on the purchase.

Nicknames? How about...

1) The "back-yard peeper" special.

2) The no PhD needed silver bullet

3) The "I eat blue corvettes for lunch" special

4) The "I don't own chickens but can carry a bunch now" special

Hope that helps.

Congrats on the new wheels, man! I guess we all forgot to tell XXXX that you actually "OWN CHICKENS" now. You can combine 2 and 3, something like the "I eat PhD boy's blue Corvette for lunch" special.

Good to see you back on the net!

By the way, they must not have Daylight Saving Time in Florida. PhD boy forgot to set his clock back yesterday!!!! He just keeps piling up the ammo for me!

We won't tell Ol' Blue about the AWESOME new truck!!! It always feels a little weird trading in wheels that you have had for so long. The weird usually lasts until you can't see the dealership in the rearview mirror! ;-)

Congrats on the new truck!!!

So you had to move AWAY from Texas to get a Texas-sized truck?

Thanks for all the name suggestions, everyone. I haven't decided what to call the truck yet - I'll keep you posted.

Miscellaneous notes:
Jim - I hope to be back on the net permanently soon, but still have no access at home yet.

Jason - True, I had to leave Texas to get a new truck. However, I'm not quite sure a Dakota qualifies as a "Texas-size" truck. Sure beats a car, though!

Glad to see you have settled in. Also, your truck looks great. Have many safe and fun years. As you already know a Texas truck will be parking next to yours. Now I need to get rid of my 18 year old Toyota with 212,000 miles!!

Congrats on the new ride!!! It's really beautiful.

Ed says "Wow, cool, that's beautiful"!!!

You could name it "New Hotness"!!! (a Men In Black reference, LOL)
